Project purpose


The aim is for Ethiopian authorities and companies relevant for the logistics and construction sector to get acquainted with Dutch companies and vice versa: for Dutch companies and organisations to get acquainted with business opportunities and potential business partners in Ethiopia.

Project results
The deliverables of the assignment for the consultant is the following:

  • The handing in of a BOR (logistics and construction) before a set deadline (at least one month before the ETH NL business event). The BOR is to follow the format provided by the Embassy (on the basis of the ABSF BOR format). It should provide solid and professional content as well as a thorough analysis of the sector, with identification of investment opportunities, and relevant procedures and contacts.
  • The handing in of a business case  on the poultry sector in Ethiopia before a set deadline (at least one month before the ETH NL business event).
  • The preparation and moderation of a thematic session on logistics and construction during the ETH-NL business event, based on the business case prepared by the consultant.
  • Set up of a program for company visits on the second day of the ETH-NL business event, for logistics and construction, and accompanying the company visit.
  • A short report on the event, including a follow-up proposal with business leads derived from the ETH-NL business event.

Project activities
Business opportunities report:

  • A Business Opportunities Report (BOR) following the digital format provided by the Embassy before a set deadline (at least one month before the ETH NL business event).
  • The BOR provides insight in:
    • The characteristics of the logistics and construction sector in Ethiopia: who are the stakeholders, how are projects assigned, the different types of contracts (financed by the ETH/DJI government, BOT-contracts and third parties (EU, WorldBank, etc). Special attention should be given to the requirements put in place by (European) banks to finance such projects in Ethiopia and Djibouti.
    • The opportunities within the logistics and construction sector in Ethiopia and Djibouti for the coming 5 years, matching Dutch expertise e.g. establishment of warehouses and cold-stores, railway and (dry/sea/air)-ports, etc.
    • Interest from Dutch private sector to take part in projects in Ethiopia within the construction sector.

Business case:

Business case logistics and construction in Ethiopia (following the digital format provided by the Embassy) before a set deadline (at least one month before the ETH NL business event).

Acquisition for the ETH-NL business event

The Consultant is to identify and approach relevant Dutch private sector to participate in the event. Registration of all participants is however a responsibility of the third consultant C1.

Thematic session at ETH-NL business event:

Preparation and moderation of a specific session on logistics and construction during the first day of the ETH-NL business event, on the basis of the BOR and the business case prepared by the consultant.

Company visit

  • The consultant is to organize company visits for Ethiopian visitors on the second day of the ETH-NL event, to Dutch companies with an interest in investing in the logistics and construction sector in Ethiopia.
  • The aim is for Ethiopian authorities and companies relevant for the logistics and construction sector to get acquainted with Dutch companies. (Dutch) Participants from the session on the first day of the event are welcomed to join.
  • Transport, lunch, dinner, etc. for the group will be arranged by the consultant.
  • The consultant will accompany the company visits on logistics and construction.

The assignment is to be done in close cooperation with the Flying Swans, a consortium of Dutch companies in logistics.

Close cooperation with the third consultant C1 in charge of the general organization of the event is compulsory. This third consultant will take charge of the final lay out of the BOR and business case, and of its printing.
