Implementation phase

Located in the South Central Cost region of Vietnam, Phan Rang - Thap Cham is the economic and administrative capital of the province of Ninh Thuan. Presently, Phan Rang city has a population of 170,000 people. Most households currently use septic tanks, but these often overflow into the ground and when emptied, the effluent is dumped untreated into nearby lakes and river or dumpsites causing serious pollution of ground water and surface water. The discharge of untreated wastewater from SMEs worsens the situation.

In the current situation, about 60,000 people and 200 SMEs (situated in some critical areas of the city centre with very poor sanitation conditions) are connected to a sewage system, linked to a 5,000 m3/day wastewater treatment plant.
  • The project concerns the development, design, financing, procurement and construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 10,000 m3/day, including tertiary (household connections), secondary and primary collection networks in the city, and subsequent operation and maintenance of the installations and training of staff. The cleaned wastewater will be used for irrigation purposes.
  • The present project aims to connect an additional 125,000 households and 300 SMEs to a wastewater collection network while the wastewater of these connections will be treated in a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 10,000 m3/day. The project is physically separated from the before mentioned system presently under construction. After project implementation 100 percent of the population of the Phan Rang - Thap Cham city will be connected to a system for sewerage and wastewater treatment.
