Project purpose
The aim of this project is starting the harmonisation of the implementation of the international food safety standards in order to create a level playing field in the international trade of dairy products between India and the Netherlands.
Project results
This project will result in an approximation of the standards on food safety between India and the EU and the project has the following sub targets:
- A number of designated and food safety commissioners have been trained on international food standards and its implementation at Indian food safety level;
- at laboratory level microbiological techniques will be implemented and improved;
- a proposal for a protocol on the recognition of the laboratory results on food safety will be developed;
- the Dutch dairy industry will have expanded their network with the Indian dairy industry and together come to a proposal for expanding the trade in dairy products and processing equipment according the international (food) standards.

Project activities
- An inception (assessment) mission will be developed together with the private sector (see below under observations);
- a seminar at FSSAI will be organised on the food safety standard setting process at national level;
- a number of workshops on training of a selection of the designated officers and food safety commissioners on implementation of the Food Safety Law will be supported by the NFPSA and a number of experts;
- Indian study visit to the Netherlands/NFPSA and the private sector;
- training session on the implementation of microbiological techniques at governmental central and regional food safety laboratories;
- workshop on the certification of private laboratories and recognition of laboratory results;
- study visit with a seminar on food processing techniques at the private sector;
- final seminar on the project results.
